School says study this, study that, it is important. I will change your future. That is only true to some extent (take it from someone who went to Cambridge). And whatever is “only true to some extent” is not a complete truth.
So, if you get anything you must get anything out of this. Listen closely to this next bit.
What you should study
My message to you is: If you want to get ahead, do not study anything else. Study yourself. Listen to yourself. Don’t run away from anything that happens inside you. Don’t run away from your darkness; the fear that roars loud, or the sadness that devours. Sit into it. Inside of it. Amidst it. And stay for a while. Stay until the tides get calmer.
The reason why I do not know anything about myself, the reason why … (I) … have remained alien and unknown to myself is due to one thing, to one single thing—I was afraid of myself, I was fleeing from myself … I will no longer study … any other teachings. I will learn from myself the secret of (myself). – Herman Hesse’s Siddhartha
A way by which many a person achieve this is: learning how to meditate. But that has never seemed to work a whole lot for ADHD-ridden me. Then again, there are ways to make this work even when you find you cannot get a grip on your mind. I am sure the great many of us have racy minds and just can’t sit still.
That is okay.
School & emotions
You see, formal education does not really teach how to manage your emotions and grow in character. We learn how to manage companies, other people, or anything outside of ourselves. But never are we taught to look inward. Listen, I went to some of the best schools in the world, and I know of many bright blokes whose inability to cope with themselves turned them into total failures. And this is quite sad.
The state of your Internal State
Your internal state more than whatever is happening outside of you. Because, in some way, the inner dictates the outer. I have found this to be in my life as well as in the lives of the most revered figures in the world.
That is a true sentence. Take it in or do not. But I am telling you, genuinely true sentences are rare in today’s noisy world. So think this through. Maybe?
